Grounded Pavilion
Pacific Northwest, US
A forest arts pavilion of exposed timber and glass, built around the trees already on site.
The brief asked for an exhibition hall. We proposed a clearing instead — a roof held on slender timber columns that steps between existing cedars, with walls that open entirely in summer.
Acoustic performance is achieved through mass timber and planting rather than applied finishes, so the building sounds like the forest it stands in.
